NEWS

May 25-

hey gang,

good news/bad news

the good news is that Dan has been offered an excellent opportunity (both professionally & personally). the bad news is that the opportunity is in the Netherlands. dan will be gone for an extended period (at least through the summer) & we wish him the best of luck.

that being said, without Dan there is no TBD, so we're gonna shut down operations for a bit. if a show we can't refuse presents itself, tim, mindi & i will put a set together. we will not be performing under the bad directions moniker, but i will certainly let ya'll know if a show pops up.

December 22- WE'RE GROWIN'!!! I am pleased as punch to announce the newest member of The Bad Directions. Mindi May (Three Miles West, Fallen Angel) has officially taken over bass duties for TBD. With Mindi on bass, I will be moving to 2nd guitar, a move that Dan, TJ, & I have talked about making for a long time. This move has given our tunes a great new dynamic & a fresh sound that, we feel, will better represent the songs as they were written. So, happy holidays & please come check out TBD Mach II in the new year. Mindi will be making her debut with TBD @ the Walnut Room on january 12.

See you soon, Bradley.

March 7- Tim's day job has got him trotting the globe for a few months, so we won't be having any full band shows for a bit. Dan & I are using the down time to book some acoustic duo gigs (starting with next week's show at the hilltop).

October 21- i've finally updated the links page. i've trimmed it quite a bit, so you can bet any links left on there are prime cuts. i've added a link to Tim's blog page. Tim is a smart guy, with a lot on his mind. He writes a good deal of it in his blog & you are welcome to read it, wrap your head around it, & respond to it.

September 21- our sincerest apologies to those of you who went to Lodo's, on sunday, for the show. due to some staffing changes & other factors out of our control, the show was cancelled & we didn't find out until we were at the club. We have worked things out with our friends at Lodo's & we'll definitely be back there, in the spring.

March 7- Incredible show at the Toad on saturday. Thanks to the Pool Cleaners for assembling the lineup, Stiffy & Wanker for securing the venue, & everyone who came out & partied with us. Please note that the date for the American Idiots show @ the Shelter has been changed. See ya'll on St. Patty's Day.

January 26- Thanks again to our buds 'Ten Cent Redemption' for letting us be a part of the show on saturday. Also, thanks to all of our friends who came out to support us. 'Sweet Mo' put on a great show, as always, & it was great to finally see 'Potcheen Folk Band'.

January 4- Hope ya'll had a great holiday season. Happy New Year to ya & we'll see you on the 21st.

December 14- Please note that the Dec. 23 benefit show has been moved to The Toad Tavern.

November 21- We've just added a new video to the music page. The video was recorded in May of 2005 @ Herman's Hideaway. It was recorded during a 'rachels playpen' show, but Rachel was kind enough to let Dan, myself, & David 'Double D' Derby sneak in a rendition of 'Wagon Wheel'.

November 3- We've finally got new photos posted. Also, check out the brand new REVIEWS & MUSINGS page.

November 3- What a month (October, that is)! We had a hugely successful album release party. Great crowd, great venue (thanks to Mark & the Soiled Dove). 'Sweet Mo' opened the show with a stellar set. I love these guys & I think you would too. No nonsense rock n roll, great harmonies, fantastic musicianship. We played second. All of our friends were there (well, all of the cool ones, anyway). It felt great & I think we had a great set (let me know if i'm mistaken). New guy Tim did a great job (thank you all for the positive feedback). Ten Cent Redemption were the headliners. They were, as always, amazing, and we thank them for letting us be a part of the night. On the 29th, we played to a packed Benders Tavern as 'the American Idiots'. We did a full set of Green Day tunes & it was, honestly, the most fun i've had in a long, long time. Ten Cent Redemption were 'Fascination Street' (Cure tribute) & the Railbenders were 'Tres Hombres' (ZZ top tribute). The hard work and transformation of all the bands still has me blown away. Special praise to soundguy Adam, for a job more than well done. We're gonna woodshed for a few weeks, but we'll be back before you know it. Thanks again, Bradley

ps. the westword took us down a few pegs this week.

October 4- Firstly, we'd like to welcome new drummer Tim Stough to the band. Tim is a fantastic rock drummer & he's certain to bring much to the band's sound. Tim will be making his debut @ the Soiled Dove on the 21st, which brings me to secondly. The album is finished. Seriously. It will soon be available on cdbaby & several other internet stores, as well as local music shops. It will most definitely be available at the Soiled Dove on the 21st. If you can't live without it another day, let me know & i'll be sure you get a copy immediately. Special thanks to our friends 'Ten Cent Redemption' for inviting us to play the dove with them. We've been talking about doing a show with them since they were conceived, & with the timing of the album's completion, the 21st is perfect.

By the way, we'll be doing a full tribute set to Green Day as 'The American Idiots' @ Benders on the 29th.

September 13- Well, I suppose you could say that summer's over & I suppose you could also say we've had a good one. We had a great run at Lodo's Bar & Grill with our rooftop series & hopefully we'll get to do it all again next year. Special thanks to David 'Double D' Derby & John Cornett for jumping right in when we needed them to. The new album (UPS willing) will arrive on my doorstep tomorrow. We are in the process of setting up an official cd-release party. I'll offer up details on that as they become available. In a few weeks, the album will be available at 'CD Baby' & various local & internet merchants. In the meantime, ya'll can always contact me to have one hand delivered.

August 17- Thank you so much to all of our friends who partied with us sunday on the rooftop. Special thanks to 'Highland Mountain Boys' who came out & played a kick-ass, mid-show set. We've got one more of these left this year (sept. 4) so plan ahead.

August 2- Please note that the Cabo Wabo & Mickey & the Motorcars show dates have changed.

July 30- As ya'll may or may not know, last tuesday, Dan & I played as an acoustic duo in the Cabo Wabo battle of the bands. Well, I guess it worked, because we have moved on to the semifinals. We will play again at Benders on Tuesday the 9th. This time around, we'll bring the full rock show with David Derby keeping time. See you there.

July 27- After two and a half years with us, Carlos has decided to leave the band & pursue other projects. As an original member of the band, & a great friend to both Dan & myself, Carlos will certainly be missed as we continue on. But that is just what we will do, as Dan & I have no desire to give up on this band. The album will still be released & we will play on with the help of our good friend David Derby. David will be behind the drums for the remainder of our summer shows. We wish Carlos the best of luck with 'Buckwild' & all of his other endeavors.

June 5- In case you missed the disclaimer up top, our Lodo's show on June 12 has been cancelled. We will be back there on July 17. In the meantime, stop by the cricket this saturday (the 11th) for our only scheduled June performance.

May 16- We were a bit worried about how the good people at Lodo's Bar & Grill would receive our music, but as it turns out, they received it quite well. Last night was one of the best responses we've ever had & we're definitely looking forward to our next show there (June 12). The staff (as always) was fantastic, the weather was great, & we made a lot of new friends. This is going to be a monthly event for us, through the summer, so make plans to join us.

April 25- Due to various conflicts, we had to cancel our Fort Collins show this weekend. Our sincerest apologies to any Fort Collins fans & any Denver fans who planned on attending. On a lighter note, we had a great show, on friday, down at McDonough's Pub (Iliff & Parker). Our friends Rubber Planet invited us to do the show with them & we're glad they did. The entire staff was extremely attentive, sound was spot on, & I believe it's the first time I've ever seen a club's talent buyer, not only stay & enjoy the show, but make sure we all had enough to drink. You can bet we'll be back there real soon. On an even lighter note, we have in our possesion, the mastered copy of the album. Jeremy Lawton has done a fantastic job with it & it sounds hot & nasty, just as we had hoped.

April 13- I just received a call from Jeremy Lawton, who has finished mastering the album. This means the audio side is complete. As soon as the artwork is finished, we will ship everything off for duplication. We are not setting a date for an official release party. It looks like we may just designate the scheduled show that falls closest to the day we have the cd in our hands. Either way, the album will certainly be available for purchase the day we get it.

March 23- Thank you so much to all who came out to the Oriental last week. Special thanks to Three Miles West for inviting us to play & to the Oriental Theatre for having us. My apologies to anyone who signed the mailing list at the show. It was left behind & appears to be lost forever. If you did sign up that night & you happen to be reading this now, please email me so I can add you to the list. Our next show is friday the 8th at the Soiled Dove. We hope to see ya'll there.

February 15- David Barber, from RockonColorado, stopped by our Larimer show & snapped off some pics. Check em out here.

February 6- All tracking, for the album, is complete. We are in the final mixdown stages & we are beginning work on the packaging. It won't be long now.

January 12- Last night we contributed two songs to the Jim Dalton's 'Willie & Waylon Tribute' @ the Royal Hilltop. Every show we've played, at the Hilltop, has been a blast & last night was no different. Jim's always got somethin' different cookin' & the crowd keeps gettin better & better. We're keeping busy this month with our first Fort Collins show & an all acoustic performance as well. This sunday we're heading up the road to Your Sister's Studio to lay down the final 3 songs for the album. I can now say, with confidence, that the album will be released sometime (aren't you glad I wasn't vague). Actually, it's looking like we'll have the album ready for public consumption as early as March.

December 20- Happy holidays ya'll. We'll see you in January.

December 7- Thank you so very much to all of our friends who came out to the Oriental on saturday night. Thanks to ya'll, it was the best show we've had in quite sometime. We're looking to make next thursday's show, at Bender's, even better, but we'll need your help. Happy Birthday Shannon!

November 2- The Mullet Show at the mule was awesome & we were thrilled to be a part of it. The bands all did great & pulled out some tunes that I had long since forgotton. I will promise you this: expect to see our mullet tunes popping up in future sets.

October 15- We've posted a bootleg recording from the Benders show. We're quite pleased with the quality & invite you to enjoy it here.

September 23- Overwhelmingly fun show at Bender's last weekend. Rachel rocked, the Railbenders rocked, & we made a lot of new friends. Thanks to Tyson & the gang for making it happen.

September 17- Special thanks to Lydia & Bill ,@ Global Sound Studio, for designing 2 new logos for us. Also thanks to John @ Global Sound for manning the controls at our last tracking session. The album is coming along nicely, seriously.

August 28- Let me begin by saying that I feel sorry for anyone who didn't see Prince perform last night. He made be want to be a better songwriter, give up songwriting, become a better guitar/bass player, burn every one of my guitars, dance, smile, cry, & be much, much sexier than I can ever be. That being said, the recording process is chugging along. Never as quickly as you'd hope, but we're getting there. Let's just say that we've finished enough tracks to put out a solid album, but ya'll deserve just a little bit better than that, so we're gonna keep working. A couple cool acoustic shows (thanks to our buddy Jim Dalton)& one big rock show in September. October finds us back at our favorite club.

August 9- In just a few short weeks we're heading back to Global Sound Studios to finish tracking for the album. The fine folks at Global Sound are also designing a logo for us. (I know, the one I designed is so damned professional looking, but we're just looking for a change).

July 17- New photos here courtesy of our friend Shane Crabtree. Thursday was another fun show at The Soiled Dove. We had a great time and thank everyone who came out to support us. We try to do mostly weekend dates, we really do. 'Three Miles West' had a stellar performance, and we wish Donny the best of luck in his new endeavors. Also thanks to our new friends 'Jay' for a great set. Up next is the Atzlan Theatre on Wednesday, August 4. We're playing with a band from New York called 'Richard Corey'. More details to come.

June 27- Pool Cleaner Michael Miller has written a review of our People's Fair set. Click here to give it a read (you'll have to scroll down about 3 reviews). I've posted new mixes of the demo tunes on the music page. Check 'em out & let us know what you think.

June 14- Big thanks to Phil Jensen for letting us be a part of the Buffalo Rose show on friday. Those who came out early got to witness a short solo/acoustic set by yours truly. This was the first time I played solo in quite a while. It was a bit intimidating, after all this time, but it made me want to do it more in the future. Saturday I spent my birthday at Herman's with Shannon and Dan. Congratulations to Three Miles West, Spiv, & Carolyn's Mother, who all put on great sets. Blue Mule this saturday. Don't miss it.

June 6- What a terrific weekend. Yesterday morning at the People's Fair, The Bad Directions played a very memorable (at least in our eyes) set. The sun was shining, the sound was on, the crowd was on, we had a great time, & we were told to stretch out our set (which is quite rare). This impromptu lengthening led to the first People's Fair rendition (please correct me if you have information to the contrary) of N.I.B. Special thanks to Stephanie & Lauri for hocking our cd's and recruiting for the mailing list. We had record numbers on both fronts. Last night we had another great set at the Cricket On The Hill. We realized that it's been over a year since we've played the Cricket, but not to worry, it won't be such a long stretch this time (we play there the 30th of this month). To top off the weekend, Dan & I returned to the Cricket stage, this afternoon, behind the lovely Ms. Rachel Simring. I hope anyone with doubts about Rachel's post-surgery voice was in the crowd today, because she has never sounded better.

May 23- Thanks to everyone who came out early for the show on friday & special thanks to the Railbenders for letting us be a part of the evening. For those of ya'll who have never seen the Railbenders, what the hell's your problem?

May 2- Recording is going well. We may have a short sampler done by the Herman's show, but I'm not promising anything. We've got some new photos (courtesy of our friend Amy Norton) of our last herman's show right here. See you on the 21st.

April 21- Well Carlos (the machine) layed down drum tracks for 7 tunes saturday at Global Sound Studio in Broomfield. Thanks to engineer JP for keeping things running smoothly. All the tracks are loaded into the 1180 here at Where's Izzy Studios. Now it's up to Dan & I to nail our tracks, and we're looking at having a radio-ready ep in about a month. 2 big shows coming up. Thanks to Jim, Tyson, & Graham of the 'Railbenders' for giving us a shot & thanks to the fine folks at CHUN for doing the same.

April 5- This week we rest. Next week we play Herman's on Thursday. We play nice & early (7:30), and we're followed by our good friends 'Three Miles West', so you can enjoy some great music and still be home at a reasonable time. The saturday following the Herman's show, we're heading into the studio to begin tracking drums for our next project. The goal is to release an ep (for promotion & radio play) in the very near future, with our full-length debut album to follow (probably a bit down the road).

March 24- Well, it was a terrific weekend for The Bad Directions. Saturday night we had a fantastic show at The Blue Mule. We were happy with our performance & the huge crowd was very receptive of all 4 bands. Sunday's audition at the Soiled Dove went equally well. We were allowed 2 songs, so we chose 'Wagon Wheel' and 'Suspicious Minds'. The sound was good (special thanks to the soundman Jordan who mixed over 30 bands, without soundchecks over the weekend with fantastic results) & the Sunday morning crowd seemed to dig it. Dan and I took the stage later in the day with 'rachel's playpen' and tore through an equally rippin' 2 song set. I want to personally thank super fan Stephanie for coming out for, not only The Bad Directions' audition, but also for 'rachel's playpen'. And even more thanks to ultra-super fan Kelly who was there for both auditions as well as our Blue Mule show on saturday night. What else can I say, but ya'll rock.

March 19- Big thanks to the 'Railbenders' for letting us be a part of their St. Patrick's day celebration @ Tavern 13. Sorry this show wasn't announced, but it was extremely last minute (we found out wednesday afternoon). For those of you who weren't there, we put together a short set & played, between Railbenders sets, to a terrific crowd. We look forward to doing more shows with the fine gents from the 'Railbenders'. This show marked our first acoustic set (as a full band), with Dan & I both playing acoustic 6-strings and Carlos playing a kit with as few pieces as you'll ever see him play. The acoustic foray went surprisingly well, so look for more acoustic shows this summer. Even bigger thanks to our pals 'Horse Thief' for swooping in and lending their talents to our Lodo's show last weekend.

February 29- Happy Anniversary to the Blue Mule. Thanks for letting us be a part of the celebration.

February 21- I'd forgotten how much I love the Lion's Lair. Thanks to everyone who came out & thanks to all the Horse Thief & Three Miles West fans for sticking around for our late set.

February 9- I've posted a few pictures from the rachel's playpen cd release party (courtesy of www.rockoncolorado.com). There were an insane amount of photographers there that night, so hopefully I'll have more pictures up soon.

February 8- Last night at Bottom's Up was a blast. It being 'Denver's Best Heavy Metal club', we played our heaviest set to date (only to be followed by an acoustic duo). We had a good time anyway, and as promised, the Westone & the flying V saw their share of action. Once again, Herman's soundman Joe Strabley has given us a fantastic soundboard recording. Click here to listen to our entire show from last weekend.

February 4- Well, it did snow like nobody's business in Evergreen, but the show must & did go on. Thanks to the superfans (ie. Paul & Sherri, Bill, Amy & Keri) who made the trek and thanks to all the kind locals of Evergreen. We'll be back to The Little Bear in the spring.

February 2- Despite the weather, we had a great time at Herman's on saturday. Thanks to 'Strange Condition' and 'The Fong Jones Band' for putting on a great show and for all of their kind words. Also, thanks to the hardcore who braved the elements for a taste of The Bad Directions. Mindi & Russ from 'Three Miles West stopped by, which reminded me that we really need to split a bill with them again, asap. We're definitely pumped for tomorrow night's show @ the Little Bear. We're definitely not pumped about the fact that it is supposed to snow even more than it did on saturday. Come see me and Dan play with 'Rachel's Playpen' friday @ the Soiled Dove. Rumour has it that Carlos will make an appearance for a romp through 'Wagon Wheel'.

January 22- We're not playing this weekend, but you can bet your sweet ass we'll be at Herman's, tomorrow night, drinkin' and enjoying the Railbenders. Stop by and have a drink with us.

January 18- Fantastic show last night at the brand new 'SOUTH PARK TAVERN'. This is a terrific new venue located at 60 South Broadway, and we expect good things for them. We made several new friends (and hopefully fans) last night, including the headliners, 'Three Miles West', as well as members of 'Honky Raunch', and 'The Railbenders'. See ya'll the 31st at Herman's.

January 10- As promised, we're expanding our horizons this year. Our first Herman's show was a success. Much thanks to ya'll for coming out and supporting us for that one. We got a terrific soundboard recording from the show that you can listen to here. We're playing 2 more new venues in the next couple of weeks. Both promise to be a blast and we're looking forward to seeing you there.
